What's Up with This Logo?

Our logo for the Master's Commission New Mexico is a Zia figure modified into a Cross with "MC" superimposed. The Zia design is an ancient sun symbol named after the Zia people from which it comes. The Zia are a Native American tribe in New Mexico and their sun sign is used on the New Mexico state flag (as seen here).

When we first got the idea for this logo, we were a bit wary of using the Zia symbol even though its original spiritual significance has been diluted by its being on the state flag since 1920. However, when we looked up what it meant to the Zia people, we felt that it fit in with the values of Master's Commission (and also made a nice connection to New Mexico).

The Zia believed that the giver of all good gave them gifts in groups of four. These gifts are:

All of these are bound by a circle of life and love, without a beginning or end.

As for the connections with Master's Commission values, we connect the four directions to the nations—the ends of the earth to which the Lord has called us to go. The seasons of the year and the parts of each day we connect to the seasons that the Lord has us in as we walk with Him. The phases of life are clearly connected to the generations, generational joining and generational transfer. And we can't argue with the 'Sacred Obligations', particularly in the context of discipleship!
